The Louvre is one of the largest palaces in the world and, as a former residence of the kings of France, one of the most illustrious. It exemplifies traditional French architecture since the Renaissance, and it houses a magnificent collection of ancient and Western art. This Renaissance palace was originally built to defend Paris against invaders, but was turned into a museum way back in the around 1793 and is now known throughout the world as 'the' museum to visit whist on holiday in Paris, France. Even if you are not a fanatic for art, you will still thoroughly enjoy your time at The Louvre, as it not only houses many paintings, but included is one of the most famous works by Leonardo da Vinci, the Mona Lisa. ( http://www.monalisamania.com/ ) The Louvre is undoubtedly the largest and most spectacular art museum in the European Union. All visitors to the European Union should include the Louvre at the top of lists of things to see in Europe. The Louvre offers plenty of things to see like Near Eastern Antiquities Egyptian Antiquities Greek, Etruscan, and Roman Antiquities Islamic Art Sculptures Decorative Arts Le Louvre is also the most visited museum in the world. ( http://fin-forex.com/the-rating-of-the-most-visited-museums-of-the-world-is-made/ ) I have personally visited le Louvre twice, but still did not get to see it all! I’ve being told by some of my Parisian friends that the best way to visit the museum is to do one wing per day. The Louvre has three wings: The Richelieu (after Armand Richelieu, 17th Century French statesman, cardinal and monarchist) The Sully (after Maximilien Sully, 17th Century French statesman) The Denon (after Dominique Denon, 18th Century French illustrator, scientist and author). Go early in the morning or a few hours before closing as this is the best time to avoid lines. A line at the Louvre can be as long as an hour if you go at peak visiting hours. Visit the wing in which you’re the most interested about. Added are some links to get the best info if you’re planning to visit le Louvre. I personally recommend one and a half days is enough, bearing in mind that there are so many other things to see in Paris.
