Butterflies Philippines
Butterflies are found all over the world on every continent except Antarctica. They are found during the warmer months of the year in many different environments, frequently in sunny exposed places with low-lying plants. Adult butterflies feed on many items including rotting fruit, animal waste and, most commonly, the nectar found in many flowers. An adult butterfly lays an egg. The egg hatches into a caterpillar or larva. The caterpillar grows to form the chrysalis or pupa. The chrysalis transforms into a butterfly. Difference between a cocoon and a chrysalis Cocoon: An outer wrapping made by the caterpillar using silk produced by glands in the caterpillar’s mouth. Moth caterpillars create cocoons as protection during the process of transformation (metamorphosis). Chrysalis: A firm casing created during the final molt before a caterpillar undergoes metamorphosis. The casing is an adaptation of the exoskeleton. Most butterflies form chrysalises rather than cocoons. There are more than 20,000 different kinds of butterflies in the world… http://www.marinduque-butterfly.com/ Butterflies need sunshine to keep warm, and most of the flowers that attract them need sunshine, too. Butterflies commonly found in the Philippines are the Stripped Blue Crow, the Spotted Black Crow, the Autumn Leaf, the Red Lacewing, the White Tree Nymph, the Plain Tiger, the Common Mime, the Chilasa, the Scarlet Mormon, the Common Mormon, and the Citrus Swallowtail. Life expectancy of butterflies An average butterfly species has an adult life span of 2 weeks or less. There are many butterfly farms all over the Philippines the ones in Marikina City being the most famous.
