Advice on how to choose a web hosting provider

A web hosting service is a type of Internet hosting service that allows individuals and organizations to provide their own websites accessible via the World Wide Web. Web hosts are companies that provide space on a server they own for use by their clients as well as providing Internet connectivity, typically in a data centre. Web hosts can also provide data centre space and connectivity to the Internet for servers they do not own to be located in their data centre, called colocation.

When searching for a hosting provider.

Research all your choices before you purchase a long term web hosting plan. That's the best way to save money on web hosting services and tools. And remember, only you can decide which web hosting provider offers the best web hosting services, tools and features at the price you want

Technical Support

How much technical support do you need from your web hosting company? How much traffic does your web site get, and what is it used for? If you have a lot of traffic, and you use your site interactively with lots of information being exchanged, then you should have as much support as possible. Most web host companies provide a basic level of tech support with your service, but then you can get more support with advanced services or just pay outright for it.

Tips

If your site is basic and informational only, then you probably don’t need too much support. If you have an ecommerce site, or have a lot of database downloads and uploads, you will want more, even 24/7 on-site service. If something happens to your server in the middle of the night and you have an ecommerce site, then it needs to be fixed as soon as possible so that you don’t lose many sales. In contrast, it might be inconvenient for you to keep a basic site down for a few hours or even days, but it probably won’t cost you too much in the way of lost sales. Think about how much you need your site to be up and running and that should help determine how much you want technical support to be there when you need it.
